I'm Zoë Cook, a freelance journalist, author and scriptwriter specialising in travel, food, drink and lifestyle.

I've been writing professionally since 2010, but my career began in television, where I worked as a producer and scriptwriter on documentaries, awards shows and entertainment programmes for the BBC, ITV and Channel 4. It was an excellent education in finding the story, making things happen and serving an audience — skills I've carried with me into everything I've done since.

I moved into freelance journalism and commercial writing in 2013, initially focusing on food and drink before increasingly finding my way into travel. Since then I've written editorial features, interviews, destination guides, commercial copy and branded content for publications and clients including Condé Nast Traveller, Red, Waitrose, Marriott, P&O Cruises and Cunard.

Travel, food and drink are where most of my interests naturally converge: I'm interested in places and the people who make them distinctive, whether that's a chef, winemaker, hotelier, producer or someone doing something unexpected in a corner of the world worth knowing about. I particularly like finding the details and stories that make writing about a destination feel specific rather than generic.

Cornwall is a particular area of expertise. It’s my homeland and I write regularly about the county for Condé Nast Traveller. I also founded The Cornish List, an independent guide to the best places to eat, stay and explore in Cornwall.

Alongside journalism and commercial work, I'm a published novelist. My debut novel, One Day In Cornwall, was published by HarperCollins, I’m just a decade late delivering the second…

These days I work across editorial, commercial and scriptwriting projects, particularly in travel, hospitality, food and drink. Whatever the format, I'm interested in the same thing I've always been interested in: finding the story and telling it brilliantly.
